Toyota Aygo: The Ideal City Car

Since 2005, Toyota sold a city car in European countries, named as the Toyota Aygo or a??o?. There was an occurrence of joint venture in regions of Kolin in Czech Republic, namely as TPCA (Toyota Peugeot Citro?n Automobile Czech at which all Aygos are made at their new factory. Firstly, this car was shown at the event of the Salon de I’Automobile de Geneve in 2005. The name ‘Aygo’ is originated from ‘i-go’ which symbolizes the mobility and freedom.

How the Aygo comes into existence

In July 12, 2001, the decision for production of the cars was taken. This decision had been made in the presence of Toyota’s presidents, Jean-Martin Folz, Fujio Cho and PSA Peugeot Citro?n. They decided for producing a small or a city car for sharing costs required for their development. This project was named as B-Zero. The Citro?n C1 and Peugeot 107is rebadged models of the same car.

The on the road starting price of the Aygo is GB?6, 845 (€8,500). There was some main differences between the Aygo and its other models such as badges, logos, interior equipment and identifiable rear end of this car in an easy manner. On the annual basis, there was planned production of producing 10000 small cars per every brand. In July 2005, the sales of the cars started and the car comes with 3 or 5 door hatchback. There are two types of engines available such as three cylinder engine of 1.0 L, attain rating of 51 kW ( 68 bhp) and a HDi diesel I4 engine of 1.4 L which have rating of 40 kW (54 bhp).

Aygo used as some Top Gears

In a giant football match, the Aygo was utilized on the Top Gear of BBC’s, which showcased its maneuverability. The presenters of Top Gears supposed the Aygo and its siblings like Citroen and Peugeot counterparts in order to be competing with the town cars.

In order to perform loop-the-loop of 12 meter high, the Aygo was also utilized on the Fifth Gear. The special track was designed for determining whether the stunts can be made through Hot Wheels toys that can be replaced in real life. In May 2009, Steve Truglia, a UK Stuntman, driven the stunt. In Chippenham , England, Tesco made donations of 2 Aygos to the local police force in 2006. These donated cars were used as patrol cars.

How recall union affects the Aygo

The Toyota recalled a defective sticking accelerator pedal in January 2010 and the Aygo was also a part of this recall union. The researchers had been made conclusions that in some situations, the pedal might attach or return in an off position or partially depressed position in a slow manner. This recall union had affected all of the three models such as the Citroen C1, Aygo and Peugeot 107 between the durations of February, 2005 and August, 2009. After sometimes, Toyota suggested the information that only the Aygos which contained automatic gearboxes were affected while manual gear boxes Aygos were not affected.
