Skoda Superb: Give Your Family The Best

Superb, a large family car is Skoda’s flagship model manufactured in two phases, first during 1934-1949 and the second one from 2001 to the present time.

Variety of Models

The original superb was manufactured during 1934-1949, being the first car from Skoda with a V8 engine and an all-wheel drive.

The 1st modern edition was manufactured during 2001-2008, based on the Volkswagen Passat platform extended by 10cm with some common mechanical components.

Its 2nd edition surpassed the Passat in many professional tests and isn’t based on its platform. Being the most luxurious model from Skoda with the largest base, its huge wheelbase provides it a competitive edge over other executive cars.

The New Skoda Superb

The latest model of the Skoda Superb was revealed in March, 2008 at the Geneva Motor Show, which is based on the B6 PQ46 Volkswagen Group, the stretched A5 Octavia platform. It is a 5-seater sedan with 5-doors including an innovative twin door at the rear that can double as a full lift back and a separate saloon boot. The layout of the engine in this sedan is transverse according to the A5 Octavia platform.

Engine Variants

The petrol engine provided with this car is available in different variants, which are sourced from the Volkswagen Group.

1. A 1.4-liter engine producing a power of 92 kilowatts is combined with an I4 TFSI (Inline 4-cylinder, with fuel stratified injection and a turbocharger) technology.

2. A 1.8-liter engine that produces a power of 118 kW and this one is also fitted with the I4 TFSI technology.

3. A 2.0-liter engine providing a power of 147 kW to the car, again accompanied with the I4 TFSI technology.

4. The flagship model of the petrol engine variants from Skoda is a 3.6-liter engine and produces a power output of 191 kW. This is an FSI VR6 engine, which is a detuned version of the engine that is available in the Passat R36. This engine is packed with a 6-speed DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) and the 4motion 4-wheel drive.

The diesel engine variants include a 1.9-liter engine with I4 TDI (turbocharged Direct Injection) along with reduced fuel consumption providing 7kW power and two 2.0-liter engines providing 103kW and 125kW power with I4 TDI technology along with common rail.
