Porsche Cayman: Reasons Of Buying One

German based company; Porsche AG launched the Cayman in 2006, which is believed to be a derivative of 2nd & 3rd generations of the Boxster roadster. It is a 2-seater sports car with a rear drive and the rear mid-positioned engine.


Initially, Valmet Automotive assembled most of the Caymans for the Porsche, which also assembled the Boxsters. The contract with this company expired in 2012 and then the production work was taken over by Magna Steyr, Austria. According to a recent news, the production of both Boxsters & Caymans is shifted to the Karmann plant located in Osnabruck, Germany. Volkswagen took over the production control with an agreement over and is the new owner of this plant. This plant is utilized for the production of the 2012 Golf Cabriolet by the owner company.

2nd Generation Cayman

The Geneva Motor Show in 2012 was selected by the Porsche to reveal the second generation of its popular Cayman. The production of the new Cayman, also known as the 981 model, began in 2013 spring and the car will be released in the market in the year 2014. Two variants of this car are currently manufactured by the company with the first one is the standard variant having a 2.7L engine and the other one is the Cayman S version having a 3.4L engine with a power capacity of 325hp. Two options available for transmission are available including a manual 6-speed transmission and a 7-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission.

This 981 model boasts of noteworthy upgrades including a fresh body design, wider front track and wheelbase and a comprehensive interior redesign to match with the one provided in the latest 911 models.
