Opel GT, a production of General Motors was launched in 1968. However, its first look was already shown in 1965 at Frankfurt motor shows and also in Paris as part of marketing strategy. Its basic body was designed by a French designer firm, Brissonneau & Lotz. Automobile experts always compare it to September 1967 introduced Chevrolet Corvette although the car was officially a 1968 model.

Comeback after 34 years

For some reason, the manufacturers have decided to take a long leap and after a 34 year long gap, they again starts its production in 2007, this time the car was based on Saturn Sky platforms. Production of this latest version was decided to be finished in Wilmington Delaware, USA that was pre-decided to be shut down for all the GTs version in July 2009 due to some reasons.

In the year 2006, company takes some significant decision regarding the launch of new vehicles, they have made it official through announcing in newspaper that they will launch  Opel GT 2006 model, which is like 2007 Opel GT model.

A Look at Features of Opel GT

Since its partner GM Gappa platform includes different engines, but to give it a unique identity, it was given 2.0 L, 260 hp (194 kW; 264 PS) and the engine possess four cylindrical direct injection turbocharged Ecotec technology.

The car was loaded with innovation, one of them was 18" alloy wheels along with a bendable cloth; this feature was very much common to Solstice and Sky. The Opel GT was originally an Opel model combined with Saturn as Opel model's production done under Saturn, a part of GM.

RHD and LHD Restriction

Open already had running models in European and UK markets and hence, when this was introduces it affects Opel Speedster in European markets. However, UK’s Vauxhall VX220 was not replaced as Opel GT is a left hand drive car so it was not launched for the markets of UK. The fact that UK consumers preferred right hand driving cars, a few cars have to face neglection since they don’t have enough finance and tools to manufactured RHD cars like Holden have to face same situation in Australia because its manufacturing plant in North America already producing Pontiac Solstice & Saturn Sky that are "left hand driving" cars.
