Mitsubishi Galant: The Engine History

The Mitsubishi Galant is a large mid-size car manufactured by Mitsubishi Motors in the year 1969. This particular name was derived from “chivalrous”- a French word Galant. The Galant have been 9 distinct generations and the overall sales have exceeded 5 million.

The Company has started the production of Galant as a compact sedan. Over the course of time, it evolved as a mid-size car. The initial production of The Galant was limited to Japan. But right from 1994, The American market has served by vehicles assembled at Diamond-Star Motors facility in Illinois.

The Colt Galant

The first generation Galant is also known as Colt Galant and released in the year 1969 at the new Japanese dealership. The vehicle design refers to the influence of aerodynamics on silhouette.

Power-Train Choices

There were 3 models available across the lineup, powered by a new Saturn engine in 1.3 L - 1.5 L configurations.

1.4 L and 1.6 L versions replaced the former configurations in September 1971 and the larger 1.7 L engine followed in the year 1973.

Initially, the vehicle was also available as 4-door sedan, a 5-door estate and in 2-door Hardtop variants. The Hardtop version was the company’s first production passenger vehicle available with no side pillars and fills side windows.

Close Competitors

The Galant is offered as the competitor to the Mazda Capella, Nissan Bluebird, and Toyota Corona across the range. It was the first car to be sold in US in the year 1971, when Chrysler Corporation, company’s new stakeholder and partner has started importing Dodge colt. The Colt was also manufactured and marketed by Chrysler Australia and sold along with other large Chrysler models like Valiant Galant.
