McLaren F1: Is It the Fastest Car?

The McLaren is manufactured and designed By McLaren Automotive and it is a sports car. Originally the idea was conceived by Gordon Murray to build a road car. Murray convinced Ron Dennis to back the project and affianced Peter Stevens to devise the interior and exterior of the car. In the year 1998 on 31st March the car set a record “The Fastest Car in the world”. The car reached the speed of 327 km per hour with a rev limiter enabled and with removing rev it gave 391 km per hour.

Features of the McLaren F1

The car is designed with lots of technologies and proprietary designs; it has a streamlined structure and is very light as compared to the other modern sports cars. The car is having one set like any other sports car. The driver’s seat is located at the center of the car and slightly forward. The seating has the two passenger capabilities. This provides the driver with the superior visibility and conventional seating layout.

The sports car has a powerful engine which is track oriented but no compromise with the everyday comfort and usability has made. The idea was to build an ultimate road car not a sports car. Despite not being a track machine, this modified edition of the vehicle won several races including Le Mans (24 hours) in the year 1998 where it faced purpose built racing cars. In the 1992 production began and 1998 it ended. 106 with little variations in the design were manufactured.

In the news

In the year 1994 the British car magazine stated regarding the McLaren F1, the F1 is the finest track driving machine yet built to run on the roads and also stated that the F1 will be always remembered as the one of the great events in the car history. And McLaren F1 may be the fastest manufacture road car that the world will ever see. In 2013 August Gooding and company at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance auctioned off chassis 066 which set a record for the sale price of US $ 8.47 million.
