Since 2006, the South Korean car manufacturing company called Kia has been producing a variant of small family cars, known as Kia Cee’d, especially for European Market.
History of Kia Ceed
This was launched in December, 2006 overriding the older version of Kia Spectra, now it is available in the variations of 5 door hatchback, 3 door hatchback also known as Pro Cee’d and 5 door estate better known as Cee’d SW. All these models offer the convenience of up to four engines, two each for diesel and petrol. They also have 3 levels of trims, which are presently 1, 2 and 3 and they have replaced the previous levels of S, GS, LS and SR. They have either automatic or manual transmission.
About Kia “cee’d”
Cee’d is the first European model of car from the house of Kia. As per company’s vision, since this has been designed for the European people hence this will not be available for sale in other parts of the world. To make this occasion memorable, they have picked up the letters EEC or CEE from European Economic Community and added another ED for European Design, along with it. They have sensibly designed the name as cee’d, because there was an E extra in CEEED, so they decided to add the apostrophe to write the name as cee’d and it is always spelt in lower case.
In UK’s one of the most popular television shows, known as Top Gear, Kia Cee’d won the top position as the most reasonably priced car in the category of "Star in a Reasonably-Priced Car" on 27th June 2010. The presenter of this show Mr. Jeremy Clarkson deliberately mispronounced the name of the car as "see apostrophe dee" and explained it as "the only car with an apostrophe in its name." Here the car used was priced at ? 13,930 GBP and its weight was 1,263 kg. In due course of time the car was replaced in Episode 20 with the famous model of Vauxhall Astra Tech Line.
Cee’d presently is available for sale only in European markets, otherwise Kia Forte, which is sold outside Europe they will start competing with cee’d. It is also sold in countries like Iran and South Africa and this was imported there in August 2009.
