The renowned corporation Chrysler has been originally owned by Fiat automobile manufacturer in Italy. The distinct feature between the Cherokee vehicle and other SUV’s is the construction of which is manufactured for major number of SUV automobiles, unlike this, the Jeep has always been designed using unibody chassis.

Defect in Jeep Grand Cherokee posed by NHTSA:

With an investigation conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in 2010, it was revealed that Cherokee’s automobile had a huge defect in the Sports Utility Vehicle model of 1993-2004. The main problem that was flashed in limelight was the position of the gas tank. Since the fuel tank was placed between rear axle and bumper, the chances of the tank to leak and emit fire in case of rear collision turned out to be very high. Relevant information posted by NHTSA revealed the death of 157 individuals which was caused by the crashing of the Jeep Grand. Along with 1993-2004 models, others which have been severely affected by the defect include Liberty model 2002-2007 and Cherokee model 1993-2001 which led to the number of vehicles affected rise up to 5.1 million.

Jeep Grand Cherokee’s comeback by offering solution to its pertaining problem:

Early June 2013, the corporation finally ventured upon the decision of recalling about 2.7 million jeeps which includes Liberty KJ and Cherokee’s ZJ vehicles. The recall however does not account into two models of the automobile company precisely Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ 1999-2004 along with Jeep Cherokee XJ 1993-2001.

The company has come with a remedy to solve the prevailing crisis by the installation of a trailer hitch, which when installed onto rear bumper will in turn help in protecting the fuel tank even if the vehicle gets involved into a rear collision. Chrysler Corporation has taken the due responsibility of installing the trailer hitch in every affected vehicle. Along with this other older jeep’s trailer hitches will be marketed by the corporation itself. In spite of the recall done by the corporation the Jeep market stands un-suffered.
