Honda CRV: What Is New?

Honda CRV - What does it stands for?

Honda CR-V has been manufactured since 1995. It is positioned as a compact SUV or as the North America says a cross over car. It has been loosely derived and conceptualised from the Honda Civic. The UK Honda sales literature defines the CR-V as the “Compact Recreational Vehicle”. Other references including the official Honda Japan CR-V Fact Book and Honda Worldwide define it as the “Comfortable Runabout Vehicle”.

Specifications and Production

The CR-V is found as both front wheel and also four wheel drives depending on the market. The CR-V first started productions in Sayama, Japan and Swindon, UK for worldwide markets. In 2007, the North America manufacturing site in East Liberty Ohio was added. In the same year El Salto, Jalisco and Mexico were also added. In 2012, Alliston, Ontario, Canada was added to the list. For China market, the CR-V is produced by Dongfeng Honda Automobile Company, a joint venture with Dongfeng Motor Corporation in a place called Wuhan in Hubei province.

Other than the Element sold in Canada and U.S. and HR-V sold in Europe the CR-V is the smallest SUV sold by Honda. The CR-V’s size is in between the Element and the Pilot. But after the Element discontinued in the 2011 model year, the CR-V got back its status as the entry-level Honda SUV.

Problems faced by Honda and measures taken

A total of 489,000 CR-V models were recalled from Europe and US on 7 October 2012. This followed a reported problem of finding rain water which may enter the vehicle’s power window switch. If it did so, it might cause the switch to overheat and risks the vehicles to catching fire.

Honda has recently recalled 172,000 vehicles. They had a reported problem of door latches which might cause a door to open while driving. This will affect the 2012 redesigned CR-V and the Acura ILX sedan.
