Honda Accord: A Car For The Family

Introducing the Honda Accord

The Honda Accord’s four door sedan variant has been the best-selling car in the U.S. since 1989. The production of the car started in 1976. The Accord nameplate has been used worldwide on coupes, wagons, hatchbacks and a crossover. The Honda Accord also became the first Japanese car to be produced from U.S. at Marysville, Ohio. In the U.S. the Accord had become successful. It was one of the best-selling Japanese cars during 1982-1997.

The Honda Accord topped the U.S. sales in 1991 and 2001 totalling ten million vehicles. It has been rated as the world’s most reliable car. It was also present in the Car and Driver 10Best list for more than 26 times.

Variants of the Honda Accord

Honda has given the Accord different car body styles and versions. It differs considerably in different regions in which it is marketed. It debuted in 1976 as a compact hatchback. This lasted till 1981 when the Accord was expanded to include a sedan, coupe and wagon. The sixth generation Accord in 1990 was a intermediate vehicle with one basic platform. However, to combat the competitiveness in the international market, it gave different body and proportions.

The size of the Honda Accord increased with the eight generation which was released in North America market in 2008. This move made the Accord from a mid-size car to just below the lower limit of the full-size car, as per guidelines laid down by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The New ninth generation Honda Accord which is released in the North America market has been classified as a mid-size car. This is because it falls just short of the full-size care and also has an interior space of 119 sq.ft.
