Dodge Dakota: Your Best Pickup Truck

Dodge Dakota is a midsize pickup truck that was introduced in the year 1986 as a 1987 model along with the redesigned Ram 50. It was built at the Warren Truck Assembly plant, Michigan.

Dakota was nominated for the Truck of the Year award in North America in the year 2000. The size of Dakota is above that of Chevy S-10 and Ford Ranger, but below full size pickup trucks like Dodge Ram.

Dakota features a conventional design with a leaf axle rear end and body-on frame construction. It was the first pickup truck in the mid size segment with an optional V8 engine. Rack and Pinion steering is one of the notable features in Dakota. The vehicle is specifically used by fire and police departments, as patrol cars, off-road vehicles, and brush trucks.

The redesigned 2005 model shared Durango SUV platform, which was quite similar to that of Ram platform. The 2005 model is 2.7 inches wider and 3.7 inches longer, and it also features new rack-and-pinion steering, and front & rear suspension.

The new generation model comes with reverted to 5-lug wheels when compared with the 6-lug wheels found in the previous generation model. You can see two engine options - V8 and V6 engines: you can see a standard 3.7-literV6 powertechengine; the other two are 4.7-liter PowerTech V8 engine and a V8 High Output engine. The 3.7-liter V6 engine can generate 210 horses of power and torsion os around 235 lb·ft.

The standard 4.7-liter V8 engine can generate 230HPof total output power and torsion of around 295 lb·ft. The 4.7-liter high output V8 engine can produce 260HP of power and torsion of around 310 lb-ft. Both the standard 4.7L V8 and 3.7L engines were available with 6-speed manual transmission and you can see this combination in 2005 and 2006 models. You can’t find that option on V8 models.
