Chevrolet Volt: Drive Longer

Chevy Volt is a hybrid vehicle from GM that is sold under the label of Holden Volt in New Zealand and Australia. It is also retailed as Vauxhall Ampera in UK . Volt gained popularity in the US initially, and then later on, its reach spread across many European countries. By the end of 2013, Ampera and Volt models combined sales of over 50K units. Chevy has managed to sell almost 41K plus units in the United States alone right from its introduction. Volt has become one of the top selling hybrid vehicles in the US, and it is also the best selling hybrid vehicle across the globe.

Most Fuel Efficient Gasoline Vehicle Sold In The Us

For 2013, Volt is the most fuel efficient vehicle sold in the US with gasoline engine. It is a complete battery electric vehicle that runs until the battery capacity drops below the threshold charge value. The vehicle has the ability to run faster on electric power alone.

Once you run out of battery, the inline-4 engine with gasoline kicks in, producing enough electricity for the motor, in turn powering wheels in certain circumstances. The rear seat is good enough for 2 average sized adults. Cargo space is very much limited due to the car’s rakish roof line and hefty battery pack under the rear seats.

Awards and Accolades

Chevy Volt has secured several awards. In the year 2009, it had won Green Car Vision Award and Green Car of the Year in the year 2011. In 2012, Volt had won European Car of the Year title. On the other hand, there have been concerns and controversies regarding this vehicle. In the early days, it had faced battery fire issues.

Quite a Sensation in Merely Two Years

Volt made its debut in the year 2011 and the initial model was available with a standard navigation system. Changes for this particular vehicle were minor and the 2012 model lacked the lane departure/collision warning systems and optional low emissions equipment that you see in the latest model.

Over past two years, it has created quite a buzz in the market already.
