The First-Ever Zero-Emission Mass-Produced Vehicle
The new i3 is the company’s 1st zero emissions mass-produced vehicle just because of its electric power-train and BMW has been at its best in launching a vehicle featuring carbon-fiber reinforced plastic in order to improve energy consumption.
Under European driving conditions, the official range of i3 car is 130 to 160 kilometers. In the most efficient driving mode, it can reach till 200 km.
Range Extender Option
The manufacturer offers REX (Range Extender Option), which is powered by a 2-cylinder 647 cc gasoline engine with a 9-liter fuel tank. The range extender acts as power generators for producing electricity in order to extend the power range to about 240 - 300 kilometers.
i3 mass productio began in September 2013 and the deliveries are expected to start in the month of November 2013. The i3 concept car was unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt auto show and the company showcased the prototype of i3 during the 2012 Olympics in London. The production version was released in the month of July 2013.
The price of base version in US starts at USD 42,275 and the one with the range extender option will cost around USD3,850 extra. In Germany, the new BMW i3 starts from €34,950, while the pricing in UK starts at GB?30,680, and the vehicle is yet to be launched in Asian markets.
