Alfa Romeo 159: The Italian Classic

The 159 model was revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in 2005 by the Alfa Romeo to replace the 156 model in the compact executive segment, which was produced until 2011. The platform of the GM/Fiat Premium used in this model is shared with the spider and the Brera production cars and two concept cars, Visconti and Kamal. The 159 model was awarded the third rank at the ‘European Car of the Year’ in 2006. Until the production of this model terminated in 2011, a total of 240000 units were manufactured, which are still marketed in various countries across the world.

Available Configurations

This model is available in two different configurations, the front wheel and the 4-wheel drive. The 4-wheel drive system, Q4, employs a twin differential of type C Torsen, with an open front differential and center and front differentials in the same parts. Engine variants available include a 2.4L diesel engine and a3.2L petrol engine. Most of the models contain a manual transmission with 6-speed gears, where 1.8L has a 5-gear transmission. The 1.9l, 2.4L diesel and 3.2L petrol/gasoline models contain an automatic Q-tronic gearbox with 6-speed gears. A 2.2L petrol/gasoline engine with Selespeed gearbox is also available in some countries. All the petrol engines except the 1.8L contain a (DFI) direct fuel injection technology, called the JTS (Jet Thrust Stoichiometric), while JTD diesel engines contain a DFI common rail technique.
