Acura TL: What You Need To Know

Acura TL, launched into the car market as a successor for the Acura Vigar in 1995, is a luxury sedan belonging to the mid-size segment. This sedan has been badged as a Honda Inspire and as Honda Saber in the market of Japan during the time period 1996-2000 and 1996-2004 respectively. It had been the best seller from Acura until 2007, when the MDX overtook it. Also, it has been ranked in 2nd place in the list of the best selling model of luxury sedans, followed by the BMW 3 series, while the sales dropped to half till then. The negative impact to the sales was caused by the negative publicity because of the styling issues raised in the last generation during the recession period. The last of the four generations of this sedan from Acura was premiered by the company in the year 2008 to be launched as a 2009 model, while the latest version is not available in the Japanese market.

The 2012 Model

In the latest model offered by the company in 2012, new styling was provided to the Acura TL. Due to the controversy, the front beak insert was replaced with a smaller insert creating a sleeker profile and a better design flow. The efficiency and the performance of the vehicle was improved with a new automatic transmission from Honda with 6-speed option. With a down-shift rev-matching along with the throttle blip, it is capable of down-shifting 2 gears simultaneously.

Ventilated seats, upgraded wheels, blind-spot alert system and 60GB HDD are some other features. The base 280hp engine of 3.5L capacity and the 305hp engine of 3.7L capacity were retained with an improvement of mileage. The reduction of the engine friction along with the use of an automatic transmission with 6-speed gears offered a rise of 2mpg within the city area and 3mpg on the highways enhancing the overall performance. Another improvement made to this model is that the new model is made quieter by 3dB on highways.
