Tesla is "stealing" Toyota customers, says study
The Tesla is becoming a more attractive option than Toyota for some of the usual customers of the Japanese manufacturer. According to a study by IHS Automotive, approximately 15.5% of the buyers of the Model S had previously a Toyota model.
According to Tom Libby, an analyst with IHS Automotive, customers consider the electric Model S more refined and superior to the Prius hybrid performance. The situation is even more pronounced when one takes into account the Lexus, Toyota's luxury brand, jumping to 25.3% of prior experience with one of the brands, before opting for the Tesla car.
