Brazilian head of global operations turns Honda

Honda Motor Co. announced two important changes in its global board.

The first is the promotion of Issao Mizoguchi to one of the heads of the company's worldwide operations post. The Brazilian, who is currently president of Moto Honda da Amazonia and senior vice president of Honda South America, will be the first non-Japanese executive to take such a post.

Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mizoguchi joined Honda in 1985 and spent the areas of quality, engineering, industrial engineering and production over 25 years. In 2009 he became commercial vice-president of Honda Cars of Brazil and three years later became vice-president of Honda South America and president of Moto Honda da Amazonia.

The other change is the entrance of a woman on their board first. The technology specialist Hideko Kunii, 66, will work on the company's board.

The measures aim to change the traditional and conservative image of Honda in the choice of professionals who make up its board. The changes will take effect only with the approval of shareholders. If this happens, Mizoguchi assume his new role from April 1, also commanding the presidency of Honda South America With that, Masahiro Takedagawa, president of Honda South America since 2011, will return to Japan.
