Aston Martin can use SL and Mercedes GL platforms, says magazine
According to Automobile Magazine, Aston Martin and Mercedes-Benz have agreed to share the SL and GL platforms of the German manufacturer. The first product of the partnership between the marks would be a sports car.
As the VH platform Aston Martin - which is the basis of every car that leaves the factory Gaydon - continues to age, the pressure will be too strong for the British brand to find a replacement to sustain the next generation of models Vantage, Vanquish , DB9 and Rapide.
The publication says that Mercedes has this type of structure, in the form of its new modular platform for sports cars, which would help get the Aston Martin, occupying the space of logical replacement for VH. This new platform is scheduled for the next generation of the SLK and SL models, but its design is still being developed.
As for the other platform, GL (also called by the name X17-67), it is an SUV. However, it would not be used for a production version of the Lagonda concept. Instead, the Automobile Magazine says that the the structure sustain a large SUV in the style of a Range Rover.
